NZ Opens/Commonwealth Games Trials 5-9 April 2010

Over the Easter weekend Amber Kay, Angus Boyle, Samantha Lucie-Smith, Steve Francis (Coach) and Philippa Lucie-Smith (Team Manager) travelled to Auckland to attend the 2010 New Zealand Open Champs which doubled as the Commonwealth Games Trials. Over the course of the week they saw twelve talented swimmers qualify for the Commonwealth Games. Read more >>

Pirates in Fairbrother Cup win

Great swimming by the Wellington team who won the Fairbrother Cup on Sunday 28 March. Pirates Georgiana Forsythe, Sarah O'Connor, Devlin Forsythe and Emma Loveard swam for Wellington and the team was coached by Pirates coach Mark Heath. Read more >>

SNZ Division II 2010

Swimming NZ National Division II Championships took place from 17-20 March at Kilbirnie Pool. The 10 Pirates team members were Inika Gadgil, Alex Heather-Sclater, Emma Loveard, Anna Singleton, Rachel Smart, Rachel Sylvester, Susie Szakats, Lilliana Wiles, Nick Lucie-Smith and Matthew Stewart. Rachel Sylvester, Susie, Lilliana and Matt were also selected to represent Wellington in one or more of the regional relays. Read more >>

Nags QEII Pool Christchurch 2-6 March 2010s

This year 10 Pirates attended NAGs in Christchurch. The coach Steve Francis's stated goal for each swimmer was to achieve a personal best time for each event entered. Most did that, which is a great achievement considering the early starts, late nights and on-going, high-spirited interaction that comes from sharing accommodation with team mates. Great swimming by the juniors Pirates swimmers at the New Zealand Juniors Swimming Championships on 20 and 21 February. Coached by Mark Heath and Olivia Melbourne, the team had some fast swims and plenty of PBs. Well done guys! See the results here. Read more >>

Nuala O'Connor is taking over from Sue Smart for the Tuesday night registrations. Thanks for all you hard work for the Club Sue! Sue Smart will still be doing assessments to see which class your child would be suitable for. WINTER CHAMPS - 5TH TO 13TH SEPTEMBER 2009

The 2009 Winter Champs are over and have been the most successful yet for the Karori Pirates. The team of 70 swimmers competed in more than 500 events and managed to hold off the challenge of Porirua City Aquatics (recently formed by the merger of two clubs) to finish in third place on points. Steve Francis -- SW Age group coach of the year 2009

Steve Francis was made the Swimming Wellington Age Group Coach of the Year last night at the Swimming Wellington Awards ceremony. This is a fantastic achievement for Steve and an award that he richly deserves after the effort he has put into competitive swimming at Karori Pirates and our success at various events including National Age Groups over the last year. This represents a further step up the Coaching ladder for Steve as he has previously been awarded Junior Coach of the Year in 2007. Well done Steve from the committee and members of Karori Pirates Swimming Club. Nigel Lucie-Smith, President, Karori Pirates Read more >>

Jolly Roger Chocolate Fish Meet 8 August

Pirates rule at Distance Meet

Fantastic swimming by the Pirates at the Wellington Long Distance meet! Ted Taylor sliced a remarkable 10sec of the Wellington short course 1500m record, which has stood for 13 years, to clock 17:11.66. Angus Boyle was the fastest 1500m swimmer at the meet, Ted Taylor was the fastest 13yr old male in the 1500m, and Amber Kay was the fastest 16yr old female in the 800m. Angus, Amber, Alex Stevenson (800m) and Rachel Smart (800m) all posted impressive PBs. Michael Seow and Stephanie Wallis swam well in their first 800m races. See the results here. Read more >>
